Gang-du adalah seorang lelaki berotak redup yang bekerja di bar makanan kecil milik ayahnya di dekat Sungai Han. Setelah pembuangan galon limbah beracun di sungai, seekor cumi-cumi bermutasi muncul dan mulai menyerang penduduk. Putri Gang-du, Hyun-seo direnggut oleh makhluk itu dan ia dan keluarganya ditahan oleh militer, yang takut virus menyebar oleh makhluk itu. Dalam penahanan, Gang-du menerima panggilan telepon dari Hyun-seo , yang tidak mati, hanya terjebak di selokan. Dengan keluarganya untuk membantunya, ia berangkat untuk mencari Hyun-seo.

Gang-du’s daughter Hyun-seo is snatched up by the creature and he and his family are taken into custody by the military, who fear a virus spread by the creature.. In detention, Gang-du receives a phone call from Hyun-seo, who is not dead, merely trapped in a sewer. With his family to assist him, he sets off to find Hyun-seo.
